Circa [1870s]., [1870s].. Good. - A slip of cream paper, approximately 1-3/8 inches high by 2-3/4 inches wide, has been signed within a decorative pink frame "Horatius Bonar". The slip has been mounted on a slightly larger piece of pink paper framed in black. There is light offsetting to the lower half of the paper from the glue used in the mounting. Very good.

Horatius Bonar (1808-1889), known as Horace to his friends, was a Scottish clergyman and poet and a prodigious hymnist. He came from a long line of ministers who served a total of 364 years in the Church of Scotland. Two of his ten siblings, John James and Andrew Alexander, were also ministers of the Free Church of Scotland. In 1853 Bonar received an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from the University of Aberdeen.
