About This Item

Circa [1870s]., [1870s].. Good. - A slip of cream paper, approximately 1-3/8 inches high by 2-3/4 inches wide, has been signed within a decorative pink frame "Henry Ward Beecher". The slip has been mounted on a slightly larger piece of pink paper framed in black. There is some light offsetting to the paper from the glue used in the mounting. Very good.

Henry Ward Beecher (1813-1887) was an American Congregationalist clergyman, social reformer and speaker, known for his support of the abolition of slavery, his emphasis on God's love and his 1875 trial for adultery. His rhetorical emphasis on Christ's love has influenced Christianity to this day.
