Otherwise a respectable copy of this collection of classic Steinbeck short stories that includes The Chrysanthemums, The White Quail, Flight, The Snake, Breakfast, The Raid, The Harness, The Vigilante, Johnny Bear, The Murder, St. Katy The Virgin, the Complete Red Pony, The Leader of the People. There were only 8000 copies of this title published in the First Edition.

A Very Good Plus copy in blue cloth binding that shows offsetting of the jacket design to the boards in a Very Good plus, unclipped dustjacket with some darkening and shallow edge wear to the spine along with two closed edge tears on the front panel. "These 13" was published during Faulkner's most productive and important period (1928-32), for his short story career. The stories in These 13 are arranged to present the shared themes and clarified problems, which lead Faulkner in the direction of his next novel Light in August. Of the thirteen stories in this collection, "Victory," "Ad Astra," "All the Dead Pilots," "Crevasse," "A Justice," "Mistral," "Divorce in Naples," and "Carcassonne" are published here for the first time.

Cleveland, 1966. Faint toning. 11 x 8.5 inches. Title leaf of translucent paper with an original drawing by levy. Mimeographed. 12 pages, on rectos only. Stapled wrappers, front cover with original ink scarab drawing by the author mounted. One of 33 copies. A scarce publication by one of levy's unnamed presses, being Edouard Naville's translation of 'The Litany of Ra.' The large original drawing of a scarab on the cover is reflective of levy's interest in the symbol, which he used as the title of his collection 'Scarab Poems.' Though neither his name, nor that of one of his presses, appears in the text, this has all the hallmarks of levy's important mimeographed books, and appears less frequently on the market than others. Original manuscript and typescript material by the famed, and infamous, Cleveland poet is scarce, with only two pieces appearing at auction in the past 50 years.

Slight soiling and discolouration of the cloth, otherwise a very clean, sharp copy. Internally clean, although the poor paper stock has resulted in some uniform toning. One of the scarcest Gaberbocchus publications, and a fine collaboration from the wildly creative Kavan, one of the few authors to have constructed a nom-de-plume, and then adopted that pseudonym as their real name, amongst numerous other achievements, of course.

The letter is in reply to a request for Lady Jersey's memories on this topic by Lady Bell, who was editing and publishing Gertrude Bell's writings. Lady Jersey was President of the Women's National Anti-Suffrage League. The letter begins "As regards the Anti-Suff in which Gertrude took such inspiring care, I fear nothing beyond memory remains."
