Sheil started writing vignettes of Irish lawyers for a magazine. Much later it was learned that William Henry Curran also contribted some of them. Mackenzie emigrated to America, which is why this collection was first published in the U.S., which also explains how this volume received Mackenzie's two-page inscription facing the title-page. NOTE: this is Volume 2 Only (of 2).
