About This Item

Rebound in simple plain brown cloth with gilt spine label. xvi, 416pp, foldout frontis copperplate of Cape Francois St. Domingo. A near-contemporary account of the Haitian revolution from a source who says of himself: "by my intimacy with those who had dwelt in Christophe's palace, as members of his household, or were in frequest attendance on him, in their official capacity, I obtained a knowledge of several facts relative to the character and proceedings of that chief." Moderate foxing. Frontis is foxed and has very tiny torn hole, affecting illustration not immediately visible. Two very small open tears similarly affect vii and viii, affecting - but barely - the text. Closed tear to final page near gutter, presumably incurred when rebound.
