"this book was organized and written by Randolph and Winston Chirchill, son and grandson respectively of the late Sir Winston Churchill. Winston was in Israel (briefly also in Jordan and Lebanon) for three weeks before the war, writing atricles for the London News of the World; and he coered the week of the war and the London Evening News. when the war ended he spent another three weeks studying the battlefields on the spot, talking to all ranks of the Israeli armed forces, including alll the senior commanders. Randolph stayed at home, following the war avidlt in the press and on television, and organized the many lines of enquiry available to him at home. thus in the main but mainly responsible for the politifal and diplomatic side. but this has been very much a joint effort and both aurhors accept responsibility for the whole book" (from the preface).
