USA: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, 1973. First Edition.. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Lynd Ward. signed by the Author. Copyright date 1973, third printing of the first edition. Presentation signed by the author on the pre-title page. Bound in cloth covered boards with original dust jacket. The volume is signed and inscribed by Ward on the half-title page. Ward executed the 80 wordless drawings that make up the book in casein. It was published in 1973 by Houghton, Mifflin. Though it shares the form and length of Ward's wordless novels, it is not classified as one. The book won the Lewis Carroll Shelf Award, the Children's Book Showcase Award, and was a Boston GlobeHorn Picturebook Honor Book. (Courtesy Wikipedia). This volume shows well with light age toning and rubbing to the jacket which has also been price clipped. The front board shows light soiling along the groove and interior pages show bright and clean. Illustrations remain bright and clean, binding is secure, and winner of several medals for children's book, a solid scarce signed book. Size: 7" - 9" Tall

Description:
The first-ever appearance in print of James Joyce's Story for Children, THE CATS OF COPENHAGEN in a special limited edition of 200 copies.
Michael Caine has printed this large-format letterpress edition with virtuoso skill, setting the text in a wondrously expressive array of original, early twentieth-century hand-cut Italian and French founts to capture the imagination of readers young and old. Casey Sorrow has brought to life Joyce's curious 'Københavnere' with ingeniously playful pen-and-ink drawings, specially commissioned, and printed by typographique cliché.
This Numbered issue, printed on Fedrigoni Freelife Vellum, is in double-elephant sextos and hand-bound in one-quarter cloth over marbled boards.
