Description:
1819 1ed Arctic MAPS Fisher Journal of William Parry Voyage Eskimos North PoleAlexander Fisher's 'Journal of a Voyage of Discovery of the Arctic Regions' is an early 19th-century account of William Parry's voyage to the North Pole. Fisher was a surgeon on the expedition and gives a first-hand perspective on the happenings on the voyage. Parry's famous voyage is best-known for encountering Eskimos, studying meteorological phenomena, and discovering new birds and plants.
According to Hill on this work,
"The author describes the voyage up the east side of Davis Strait and Baffin Bay to the entrance of Smith Sound. Included are detailed descriptions of the Eskimos and sea mammals"
This first edition is notable for including information about Parry's voyage that was not included in Parry's own narrative – specifically on ice conditions and natural history.

Description:
1642 1ed Religious Assemblies Anglo-Catholic Thorndike English Church CambridgeHerbert Thorndike was a 17th-century English churchman who wrote important theological treatises, including his 1642 work 'Of Religious Assemblies'. This book discusses the use of ceremonies within the Church, notes of church reforms, obligations and rules pertaining to clergy, preaching, orders of public service, origins of litanies and liturgical texts, sings Psalms and hymns, and much more. Interestingly, Thorndike did not distinguish between the Catholic or Protestant church, in fact, his views and works helped establish what became known as Anglo-Catholic theology.

Description:
London: Bradbury and Evans, 1854. First. Very Good. This is the first edition in book form of Hard Times, which had been serialized in 1854 in Household Words Hard Times †For These Times (commonly known as Hard Times) is Dickens' tenth novel The book surveys English society and satirizes the social and economic conditions of the era The book is unusual in several ways It is by far the shortest of Dickens′ novels, barely a quarter of the length of those written immediately before and after it Also, unlike all but one of his other novels (Great Expectations), Hard Times has neither a preface nor illustrations Moreover, it is his only novel not to have scenes set in London Instead the story is set in the fictitious Victorian industrial Coketown, a generic Northern English millâ€town, in some ways similar to Manchester, though smaller Coketown may be partially based on 19thâ€century Preston One of Dickens′s reasons for writing Hard Times was that sales of his…

1588 1st ed Pliny the Younger Epistles Panegyricus Vesuvius ROME Early ChurchPliny the Younger, one of the most notable 1st-century historians, is best remembered for his written works and orations. His best-known, and still widely popular work is his 'Epistles', which was a series of personal letters to other Roman figures. They give an important view of Roman everyday life as well as an interesting perspective on Pliny's views against Christianity. However, the most important epistles concern Pliny's account of the Mount Vesuvius eruption. Tacitus, a friend of Pliny, wanted to know more about the death of his uncle, Pliny the Elder, and the eruption itself. This 1588 first edition was published by Jean Richer and includes a dedicatory epistle from Claude MignaultItem number: #9875Price: $599PLINY the YoungerCai Plinii Secundi Novocomensis, Epistolarum libri decem. Description:
v+321 pages. Small octavo (7 3/4" x 5 1/2") bound in original publisher's black cloth with gilt lettering to cover and spine. First British edition. St. Ives: Being The Adventures of a French Prisoner in England (1897) is an unfinished novel by Robert Louis Stevenson. It was completed in 1898 by Arthur Quiller-Couch. Unable to write, Stevenson dictated thirty chapters of the novel to his stepdaughter as a diversion from his debilitating illness. He alternated dictating St. Ives and The Weir of Hermiston but gradually lost interest in the former. The plot concerns the adventures of the dashing Capitaine Jacques St. Ives, a Napoleonic soldier, after his capture by the British.
