Original condition with blue wrappers, titles to front, and containing all the ads. This is a complete issue, seldom found in such good and original condition. Accompanied by a detailed route map of the author's expedition, this account reveals the secret politico-religious society of Poro among the Sherbro people, includes comments on polygamy and female/male circumcision among the Mendis. He also mentions the coveted diamonds, chronicles fascinating interactions, recounts an attempt to rescue slaves when the practice was still rampant. Sherbro people are native people of Sierra Leone whose history dates back to pre-colonial times. In the 18th century the Sherbro began to get involved in the slave trade and became more powerful than the white slave traders. They began to employ the Mende people to work for them to find slaves to meet the growing demand for slaves. . First Edition.
