[Vinita, Indian Territory]: [Chieftain Print], 1892. First Edition. Printed Self-wrappers. Very Good. 44pp, unfolded and unbound. Title-page in English and Cherokee. Text in Cherokee. Paper toned, but sound. Printed on leaves 6.25" x 8" Reverend Chamberlin went to Pheasant Hill, in what is now Craig County, Oklahoma, in 1868, several years before Vinita was set up. He printed his own translations of religious materials on a crude press and distributed them among the Native Americans as part of his missionary work for the Presbyterian Church. The Chieftain Newspaper appeared around 1882. [This pamphlet is not in Hargrett, Oklahoma Imprints, which goes through 1890. Not in Gilcrease-Hargrett Catalogue of Imprints.].
