Colchester: Privately printed and published (Benham and Company Limited), 1967 0. First illustrated Edition, limited to 200 copies. Said to be one of the rarerest books illustrated by "BB" Denys Watkins-Pitchford (There is not even one listed on COPAC - British Library). Original plum cloth with gilt titles to front board and spine. Light soiling and rubbing to all surfaces. Small brown mark to top of endpapers, otherwise clean throughout. Clean text throughout illustrated with 7 full-page engraved plates by "B.B." (including the frontis). Last leaf states: "Two hundred copies of this illustrated edition have been privately printed, of which this is number ....." . No number has ever been entered. Scarce. VG. ** This charming ghost story was written by Alan, 8th Duke of Northumberland and published in 1930. As stated in the preface his son Hugh, 10th Duke, decided with his friend Col C. G. Lancaster to reprint the book in a small limited edition for their friends. Almost certainly it would have been Col. Lancaster who owned Kelmarsh Hall, Northamptonshire, near to the home of B.B., who would have suggested commissioning him to illustrate the book. The book was never made available to the public. .
