About This Item
New York: Mill & Morrow, 1959. Hardcover. Very Good. A late mystery by Benson, a police procedural featuring Massachusetts state trooper Ralph Lindsey, on temporary duty as an instructor at the State Police Academy in Framingham. Lindsey re-establishes contact with an old friend now a recruit at the academy, who suddenly disappears and is then found murdered. Lindsey is given permission to investigate and soon finds himself facing a mythic man ruling an insidious racket. First printing, first bookclub edition. About 5 3/4 x 8 1/2 inches, 189 pages in light blue paper-covered boards with black lettering on spine. Sorry, no dustjacket. Boards show only a bit of light bumping at spine ends, o/w clean and free of noticeable flaws or damage. Text block has slight spine lean, text edges lightly soiled. Binding tight, hinges intact. No tears, creases or underlining or highlighting. A very decent reading copy of a well-written novel by an author who wrote 19 mysteries before dying at age 45.
