Description:
1887 Confederate Navy Memoirs of Raphael Semmes Civil WAR Service Afloat RARERaphael Semmes was a Confederate officer in the American Civil War, commanding ships in the Confederate and the United States Navy. He published a collection of memoirs and war reminiscences describing his service in the navy during the Civil War; however, this work is primarily looked at as a defense of his actions during the Confederacy's inevitable loss, or 'Lost Cause'.
According to Nevins, this work is
"a first-hand, subjective account by the captain of the CSS Sumpter and the Alabama, interestingly written."
