He was the 1st Catholic bishop of San Diego from 1936 to 1966. He served as the University of San Diego's first president from 1950 to 1966. Bishop Buddy died in 1966. The author, Georg Heinrich Loskiel (1740-1814), was a Moravian minister from Latvia who came to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, in 1801 to head the Moravian community. This collection of daily spiritual meditations was published in Budissin (now Bautzen, Ger.) shortly before he left Europe for the United States.
