Owner's ex libris plate on front pastedown and embossed stamp at top edge title page. Lightly rubbed along bottom edge spine. Faintly foxed rear fly leaf with slightly age-toned text block edges. No markings, tight binding, pages clean and white. 5.75" x 9". Green cloth with blind-stamped borders to front board, and gilt lettering to spine. I. Introductory; II. Correspondence Chiefly Relating to the Encyclopedia Britannica; III. Correspondence Relating to the Edinburgh Review; index. "MacVey Napier, (1776 - 1847, Edinburgh), Scottish lawyer, first professor of conveyancing at the University of Edinburgh, who was an innovative editor of the Supplement to the 4th, 5th, and 6th editions of Encyclopaedia Britannica and editor of the 7th edition. In 1829 he replaced Francis Jeffrey as principal editor of The Edinburgh Review.".
