New York: Twayne Publishers, 1959. Hardcover. Compiled by Albert Mordell. 8vo. Blue cloth with silver lettering, pictorial dust jacket. 279pp. Near fine/very good. Jacket mildly edgeworn and a bit rubbed. A tight, nice first edition of these writings ob Lincoln's Secretary of the Navy. Robert W. Johannsen calls "These postwar observations... a valuable addenda to Welles's incomparable diary." Interestingly, front pastedown bears the bookplate of U.S. Naval War College alumni and WW2 naval pilot George Martin Cunha (1912-94), an influential figure and author in the world of document conservation.
