The trial of Madame Euphemie Lacoste (b. 1819), whose family forced her to marry her 68-year-old great uncle Henri Lacoste in 1841. When he died suddenly and his body was found to contain arsenic, she was arrested and tried for murder, along with 70-year-old schoolmaster Joseph Meilhan, to whom she had given a minor pension. They were acquitted because of insufficient evidence (the traces of arsenic in Lacoste's blood may have been due to treatment for syphilis). Very scarce. In Very Good Condition: light foxing on half title page; otherwise, clean and solid.

Every leaf of text is interleaves with a blank leaf for notes; in this volume the blank leaves remained blank. Former owner's inscription on front fixed endpaper: Warren G. Light, Lebanon, Pa. "Warren G. Light" is also written at head of the title page. Stamped on front free endpaper: "Meyer, Brubaker & Lewis Law Offices, Lebanon, Pennsylvania." This was probably Alvin B. Lews, esq., a grandson of Warren G. Light, esq., of Lebanon, Pa. Tipped onto the back free endpaper is a printed leaf with Uniform Rates recommended by the Commercial Law League of America at its 23rd Annual Convention in 1917.
