The object of Mr. Rodd's journey was to further explore and to map the little or unknown regions in the Aïr mountains, and to investigate the habits and origin of the Tuareg people. This is an extensive expedition report published in two complete issues, accompanied by many photographic illustrations and two large fold-out colour route maps showing South Central Sahara Desert West of Aïr and Ifoghas. Previously in 1922, accompanied by Angus Buchanan, Francis Rodd made his first great expedition to the people and country of Aïr in the South Central Sahara, and gave an account of the Tuareg people in his book, entitled "People of the Veil: Being an Account of the Habits, Organisation and History of the Wandering Tuareg Tribes which Inhabit the Mountains of Air or Asben in the Central Sahara," published first in 1926. In his second journey in 1927, Francis Rodd, accompanied by Augustin Courtauld and his brother, Peter Rodd, traveled approximately 10 months among the Southern Tuareg, from Katsina in Nigeria to the Aïr neighbourhood, and then to Timbuktu and the Niger. .
