First published in 1873, this surreal opium-influenced prose poem was finished in a frenzy after the break-up of Rimbaud's relationship with Verlaine who shot him with a revolver in the summer of that year. The dust jacket is very scarce. Octavo. Original black buckram, spine lettered in gilt, top edge gilt, others untrimmed. With dust jacket. Title printed in red and black. A hint of rubbing to corners, the binding otherwise sharp, internally crisp. A fine copy in near-fine jacket, slight wear with minor loss to corners, spine panel sunned, else bright and notably fresh.
