Hardcover, light blue cloth boards with black text on front and spine. Exterior shows spotting along the bottom and rear board has larger spot, possibly dampstain, and remnants of paper. Internal binding is good, no hinge cracks. Front and rear gutters at boards show dark spots, possibly from reacting to the glue. Inscribed and signed by J. J. "Jacko" Clark on the front end page, presenting the book to Jim Lucas and dated November 18, 1966. Copyright page states first printing.

Near fine with moderate age-toning to the endpapers, in a very good dustwrapper with rubbing, scattered spotting and a few small tears to the edges. Inscribed by the author to the great boxing champion: "To Gene Tunney, with best wishes from his friend, J.J. 'Jocko' Clark, 17 May 1967." Admiral Clark, a native of Oklahoma, was a member of the Cherokee tribe. He was the first Native American to graduate from the United States Naval Academy, in 1917. He was a decorated commander of aircraft carriers during World War II. During the Korean War, he commanded the Fast Carrier Task Force (TF 77), and later, as Vice Admiral, the entire 7th Fleet.
