British writer & lay theologian Clive Staples Lewis (1898 - 1963) taught English Literature at Oxford Univ and Cambridge Univ. Known the Chronicles of Narnia, was an intimate of J. R. R. Tolkein to whom this book is dedicated. This novel is a moral tract on Christian theology regarding temptation & resistance. 137 pgs, composed of 31 one-way, epistolic letters from senior demon Screwtape to his nephew Wormwood, a junior tempter assigned to secure the damnation of a British man known only as "the Patient", in the 20th century world of the un-holy trinity --- the World, the Flesh, and the Devil among lukewarm & post-Christians.

Synopsis

The Screwtape Letters is a work of Christian apologetics by C. S. Lewis, first published in book form in 1942. The story takes the form of a series of letters from a senior demon, Screwtape, to his nephew, a junior tempter named Wormwood, so as to advise him on methods of securing the damnation of an earthly man, known only as "the Patient. The novel was dedicated to J.R.R. Tolkien, and is among one of Lewis' most popular works.
