Captain Robert Falcon Scott has taken his place in the history of this country and will always come to mind when the Antarctic is mentioned. Although he made his mark with the first expedition in 1901-3, it was the final and successful attempt to reach the South Pole - culminating n his death, and the death of his companions - which struck the imagination of the world. This was the epic British Antarctic Expedition of 1910-13, described in his Journal and published posthumously under the title Scott's Last Expedition.
