Endpapers browned, some spotting of the binding; overall, the book is in good to very good condition. The dustwrapper is present, but is in tatty condition (chipped and torn with loss). The dustwrapper has now been put in a mylar cover to protect it.

London: Hodder & Stoughton Limited, 1934. Octavo, portrait frontispiece, some foxing of the edges yet a most attractive copy in full navy polished calf with gilt rules, raised bangs and lettering, by Sangorski and Sutcliffe.
First edition, prepared for the press while Scott was still en route from Australia. In the preface, John Leggitt writes that 'the book was written, of course, in the hope that he would win, but it is on its own merits that he would like it to stand'.
