About This Item
William Heinemann, London, 1935. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/Good. Blue coloured boards with gilt coloured titles to the backstrip. Illustrated dustwrapper showing the Scottish Thistle against a beige coloured background with blue coloured titles to the front panel and backstrip. " No reader thinking to find the Scotland of the tourist's delight should open this book. Mr Muir is intent upon the realities of life -- work, trade conditions, politics and points of view. And so outspoken is he, so ruthlessly determined to tell the truth as he sees it, that some sections of Scottish opinion will be stirred as they have not been this heard since the days of W. H. T. Crossland, and more bitterly far, since Mr Muir is in deadly earnest." -- from the front fold over panel. Bumping and rubbing to the head and to the heel of the backstrip and to the top book corners. Rubbing to the lower book corners. Browning of the text block edges. Light browning of the endpapers and of the internal pages. On the front paste-down there appears to be the removal of a previous ownership plate. Previous owner's name on the free front end paper and the top right-hand corner of the same page has been clipped. Rubbing and chipping, with loss, to the dustwrapper corners. Rubbing and chipping to the head and to the heel of the backstrip. Creasing to the dustwrapper edges and there is a 0.25 " tear to the lower left-hand corner of the front dustwrapper panel. Darkening of the backstrip and lighter darkening of the dustwrapper panels. There has been staining and marking of the dustwrapper panels as well. A little marking to the verso of the dustwrapper.
