Science and Technology in Medieval Society by Long, Pamela O - 1985: Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences Vol 441

Half of the papers in this volume were presented at a conference entitled Science and Technology in Medieval Society, held on November 12, 1983, which was organized by the Medieval and Renaissance Studies Program at Barnard College and funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities. That meeting was the generative occasion for the present volume, which is not an exact record of its discourses, but a new collection of writings. The conference itself has a life of its own in the memories of those who attended, a tradition in the previous four conferences organized by the Medieval and Renaissance Studies program at Barnard, and a context of inspired undergraduate education and advanced research led by Professors Suzanne Wemple and Maristella Lorch.
