Description:
(New York): (J. F. Tapley), 1923. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good. 12mo, 329pp., illustrated by Malcolm Thurnburn (though he is not credited by name in the book). A very good copy in the publisher's alligator-like binding. Some residue to spine, and the spine does seem strengthened/repaired; contents very crisp and tight. Some related ephemera laid-in; two of these pieces havve numerous partially legible annotations in an unknown hand (conclusively NOT Fersen's). A wonderful little book by this early 20th century mystic and spiritualist. The text is printed in brown and gold, and there are numerous full-page illustrations and inset decorative elements very much in the late Art Nouveau style. Scarce in commerce, and we will note that every other copy we've ever seen is in a brown alligator binding; not this black/grey and white patterned binding.

Description:
New York: J. F. Tapley Co, 1923. First Edition. Fine/Near Fine. First edition. Bound in publisher's dark brown leatherette binding over semi-flexible boards, with emblem stamped in gilt on front cover, in original glassine wrapper housed in original brown card-paper box with two publisher's prospectuses laid in. Fine, virtually as new, in a Near Fine toned glassine which is lightly edge-worn and has a short split at the end of one of the flap folds. Near Fine original box with light staining and a split to one corner of the lower tray. Bookstore rubber stamp to one prospectus, with two holographic strike outs to the text, one being to the price and the other the text reading "synthetic Rajah lizard skin cover." At the very least, this points to different variants if not issues or states. Bibliographic musings aside--a rather nice copy, uncommon in the original brown box and with extra materials laid in.
