Description:
Socorro, New Mexico: New Mexico Bureau of Mines and Mineral Resources, 1974. Second Printing Revised June 1974 . Trade Paperback. Very Good. 6" x 9. 73 Pages. This booklet, eleventh in a popular series portraying the geology of scenic areas in the state, is the first to feature a railroad trip. The ten preceding scenic trips have been along New Mexico's highways. Commencing June 27, 1971, after a lapse of 20 years, sight-seeing passenger service was restored on this historic narrow-gauge railroad through the scenic high country along the Colorado-New Mexico boundary. In October, 1971, the New Mexico Geological Society, in conjunction with its 22nd annual field conference, sponsored a special railroad geological excursion from Antonito to Chama. Included in the 1971 guidebook published by the Society is a section describing the geology as well as a reprint of a portion of The Crest of the Continent, Ernest Ingersoll's classic account of his 1883 trip on this same railroad.
