About This Item
Time has not been altogether kind to this one, so I am offering it at a 20% discount. The cover is a bit soiled, and a small hole has been poked into the cover on the spine. There are a couple places inside where the binding is weak as well.
The Detective Book Club produced volumes of three crime novels from 1942 to 1999. Originally monthly, near the end they dwindled down to just a few per year. Many famous detective and crime novelists had their early works featured in DBC editions. Often, books were published in DBC editions before, or at the same time as they were published in mass market form. A little about our authors:
Dorothy Salisbury Davis: Dorothy S. Davis wrote 23 novels, plus many short stories. She was named a Grand Master of the Mystery Writers of America. Along with mysteries, she wrote a few novels of historical fiction. Her two recurring sleuths were Mrs. Norris and Julie Hayes. This is the second of four Julie Hayes novels. Davis died in 2014.
Donald E. Westlake: Westlake wrote over 100 novels over his career. Many are humorous and often with a touch of the absurd. He had four series of recurring characters, the most significant being the Dortmunder series, with fifteen novels. Most of his books are stand-alone. Westlake died in 2008.
Michael Underwood: Michael Underwood was the pen name of British writer John Michael Evelyn, who passed away in 1992. He penned 48 novels, of which eight were stand-alone novels and the rest featured one of five recurring investigators. The longest series featured Rose Epton as the sleuth (16). The is one of Underwood's few stand alone novels.
