(paper- and foil-covered boards; no dust jacket) [worn copy, with a rebacked spine; moderate soiling/spotting to edges of text block, scraping/rubbing to covers]. The ne plus ultra of cocktail recipe books, with instructions for concocting hundreds of alcoholic libations from the ordinary (Southern Mint Julep, Fifth Avenue Cocktail) to the whimsical (Bunny Hug Cocktail, Filmograph Cocktail) to the downright scary-sounding (Rattlesnake Cocktail, Sharky Punch Cocktail). This copy INSCRIBED and SIGNED by the legendary bartender-author on the verso of the dedication page, thus: "'Here's How' / Harry Craddock / To Bill Durning with the best / wishes of the Author / October 12/31." And in the back of the book, on page 287, the one-time owner has added his own little note of provenance: "This book is the property of W.J. Durning, Los Angeles, Calif., and presented to me by Harry Craddock at the Savoy Hotel bar, London, England." NOTE that the book has been rebound, and the original spine cloth replaced.
