This book is the first British edition of the William Faulkner (1897-1962) classic novel, "Sartoris". It is a story of the decay of an aristocratic Mississippi family, the Sartoris'. The novel begins with the return to Jefferson, Mississippi, of young Bayard Sartoris, from service in the First World War. Haunted by the death of his twin brother John, who was killed in action, young Bayard, with reckless abandon, sets a path of self-destructive behaviour when he purchases an automobile . . .
