In the original unclipped dustwrapper depicting Mars from its outer moon Deimos. With a map of Mars. Arthur C. Clarke was a British science fiction writer and inventor, who is widely regarded as a key figure in the popularisation of space travel. His screenplay for the 1968 film 2001: A Space Odyssey, which was co-written with Stanley Kubrick, is considered to be one of the most influential films of all time. For many years Arthur C. Clarke, along with Robert Heinlein and Isaac Asmiov, were considered the 'Big Three' of science fiction writing. Whilst Clarke was already well known for his short stories, The Sands of Mars is Clarke's second full length work of science fiction and was published before humans had achieved space flight. This work is principally set on Mars, on which humans had settled at a research facility. Condition: In a red cloth binding in the original unclipped dustwrapper. Externally in excellent condition with just some slight wear to the head and tail of the spine. Dustwrapper is smart, with some slight chipping to the head of the spine and the extremities of the flyleaves. Handling marks to the wrap. Internally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with some marginal age toning. Overall Condition: Near Fine in a Very Good Indeed dustwrapper.
