The binding shows moderate wear and has some soiling from handling on the edges near the spine. The outside edges of the text block have some foxing or stains. Front flyleaf has extensive glue residue where the errata page had been pasted down but has since come loose. Errata is now laid in loosely at the front of the book. Text is clean. Signed on the front pastedown by Catherine Sanders McConnell, the compiler. Many of the Sanders appear to have been from the southwest region of Virginia, especially Wytheville.

The work identifies 333 Washington County cemeteries and cites the inscriptions of each tombstone. Seven detailed maps aid in locating the burial sites.
