Description:
Paris: Julliard, 1960. First Edition. Softcover. Very Good Condition. An advance copy (with s.p. on the rear cover) of the limited edition (though not on Marais paper) with plain covers and an interview and portrait of Wright. Lacking a glassine wrapper, but likely to have never had one. Light wear and age toning, inscribed by Wright to Françoise Sagan and additionally signed by the translator Helen Bokanowski. Slight browning to covers, but an attractive copy and a terrific association of two giants of 20th century literature. With an announcement for the book, a bit worn, laid in. Wright lived in Paris from 1946 until his death in late 1960 - he became in French citizen in 1947. Published as The Long Dream in 1958, it is often viewed as the final book in the Native Son, Black Boy sequence. It traces the life of Fishbelly, the son of a Mississippi mortician in the Jim Crow South. Size: Octavo (8vo). Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilo. Description:
Fawcett Crest, 1964. 4th Printing. Mass Market Paperback. Good. Book is clean with a square, tight binding. Pages and covers have age tanning and a previous owner's name on first page. Book is eminently readable still This now-classic novel by Richard McKenna enjoyed great critical acclaim and commercial success when it was first published in 1962. The winner of the coveted Harper Prize, it was on the New York Times bestseller list for seven months and was made into a popular motion picture that continues to be shown on television today. Set in China on the eve of revolution, the book tells the story of an old U.S. Navy gunboat, the San Pablo, and her dedicated crew of Sand Pebbles on patrol in the far reaches of the Yangtze River to show the flag and protect American missionaries and businessmen from bandits. The plot revolves around a newcomer to the boat, machinist's mate Jake Holman, a maverick and loner who dramatically alters the lives of the crew and the people they have come to…
