Edition unknown (1833), German text, small 8vo, 165 x 106 mm, 6½ x 4 1/8 inches, spine neatly taped long ago with dark red cloth, buff boards with black decorative border and lettering to upper cover, lower board with same border and floral vignette, pages: iv + 92. Beautiful hand coloured lithograph frontispiece of a little girl being shown a caged siskin. 15 other very attractive nicely hand coloured lithograph plates, some for fables, some accompanying the poems. A collection of fables and stories from national poets. 72 poems many of which are on animal subjects in the manner of fables, some merely on animals and some unconnected. Corners and board edges slightly worn, free endpapers front and rear neatly removed, neat name on front pastedown, vertical binding crease to title page with 3 mm (1/8") closed tear at top, neatly repaired on reverse, occasional light foxing or browning, not affecting plates, some pale margin fingermarks, ink word in child's hand in 1 margin, slight small stain to a couple of text pages. A good copy of a charming children's book (2 copies only located, both in German libraries). First published undated in 1833, we could not establish whether or not it was reprinted.
