The First UK printing published by The Hogarth Press in 1937. The BOOK is in near Fine condition. Original blue cloth lettered in black. A hint of pushing and toning at the extreme spine tips. Mild toning to the text-block. Light spotting and offsetting to the prelims. Free from inscriptions. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good++ or better condition. A hint of edge-wear at the spine tips with some very light spotting in places. The peach colouring remains very bright. Some light toning to the spine. One small closed tear to the rear upper flap fold. The Richard Kennedy wrapper design looks very striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. 'Sally Bowles' was Isherwood's fourth solo publication, his second Berlin novel, and was subsequently incorporated into 'Goodbye to Berlin' two years later in 1939. Only 2040 copies were printed (Woolmer 411). The nicest copy we have handled to date. Ashton Rare Books welcomes direct contact.

Description:
The First UK printing published by Peter Davies, London in 1945. The BOOK is in Very Good++ or better condition with just some very light pushing at the spine tips. Light fading to the spine ends corresponding to the losses to the wrapper spine. Free from inscriptions and erasures. A small neat bookseller sticker to the lower front pastedown. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good+ condition. Some losses to the spine ends and the lower front edge. Mild edge-wear with some nicks, light creasing and minor losses. The unattributed wrapper artwork remains striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. The book, the author's first novel, was printed in conformity with the authorised war economy standards and is a very scarce survivor. It is highly likely that the book would have been printed in a small print run. I can only see one copy having appeared at auction in the last 30 years, and it is unclear as to whether that copy had a wrapper or not. More images available on request. Ashton Rare Books… Read More
