A First UK printing published by Jonathan Cape, London in 1973. The BOOK is in near Fine condition and appears unread. Light pushing at the spine ends with some mild offsetting to the end papers. The boards and pages are exceptionally clean. Free from inscriptions and stamps. Some minor mild blemishes in places to the front text block. The black top stain remains vibrant. The WRAPPER is complete and is in VERY GOOD++ or better condition. Exceptionally bright colouring with no fading to the spine. A little edge wear at the spine ends with a small closed tear to the front upper edge. The Marc Getter wrapper artwork looks very striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. A special Limited Edition published by the Land Press in 1980. The BOOK is in Fine condition. Original blue cloth, titles to spine gilt, decorations to covers gilt and silver designed by James Brockman. With the original blue cloth slipcase as issued in near Fine condition. This is number 31 from an edition of only 400 copies which were Signed by the Author and printed on Barcham Green paper. Accompanied by firstly, the loose Prospectus and secondly, a printed letter from Christie Art auctioneers with a photo of the special leather bound book referring to the prospectus. A very handsome edition of this title originally published in 1964 which has been successfully adapted for the movies starring Colin Firth and directed by Tom Ford.

The BOOK is in near Fine condition with just a tiny amount of rubbing and a very small split to the extreme spine tips. Free from inscriptions and erasures. 'The woodcuts were printed from the blocks ; the paper is Dover, handmade at Maidstone, Kent, these copies are signed by the poet and artist and are numbered one to two hundred and twenty five.'. Leonard Baskin has provided five full page B/W woodcuts, a further one hand coloured and a further half page bird decoration to the limitation page. The publisher's original brown boards with sand-coloured cloth as the spine and half-cover are clean. Light pushing at the spine tips. The red leather label on the spine with the title and author details is complete with just a hint of rubbing to the upper edge. Top edge gilt, others uncut. Some offsetting to the end-papers. Free from inscriptions and erasures. Light toning to the page edges. Some light creasing to the upper corner of a couple of pages. The WRAPPER is complete and is in Very Good+ condition. Some losses to the spine ends and the lower front edge. Mild edge-wear with some nicks, light creasing and minor losses. The unattributed wrapper artwork remains striking in the removable Brodart archival cover. The book, the author's first novel, was printed in conformity with the authorised war economy standards and is a very scarce survivor. It is highly likely that the book would have been printed in a small print run.
