Philadelphia; Nd(ca.1933): Lippincott. Octavo. Half-title, frontispiece, 9-302 pages, illustrated with maps, plans and plates. Edward Stotherd was the Wing Office of the 4th Cavalry of the 2nd West India Regiment at Hyderabad in 1888. His history is fascinating with his primary work in India. With the disbanding of Nizam's Cavalry, the British Indian Army instead of the Contingent (though the term was used by soldiers for the next generation). The account from the Tirah Expedition to the Boxer Rebellion were his most interesting events where he survived attacks and severe illness. His career ended during World War I where his description of the German defenses on the Belgian border are among the most significant. A beautiful copy bound in a modern 3/4 red leather over red cloth raised bands lettered and decoratively stamped in gilt, marbled endpapers. A fine copy housed within a cloth covered slipcase.
