Chicago: The Hammings Publishing Co, 1914. Hardcover. Illustrations by Ella Dolbear Lee. 16mo. Beige pictorial paper over boards. (25pp), (1p ad). Numerous color illustrations. Very good. Binding a tad rubbed and faintly edgeworn, though internally near fine. Quite handsome probable true first edition of the first volume in the "Wig Wag Series" ("Faithful Fanny," "Circus January" and "Little Gray Sparrow" being the others) -- according to copyright year issued two years prior to the Whitman Publishing Co. edition of 1916 usually cited as the first edition. Hamming was an obscure publisher who seem to have issued a few titles in the years 1913 and 1914 only, which lends credence to this edition's priority over the Whitman edition. Interestingly, the printer's slug on rear flyleaf credits Western Printing & Litho. Co. on Racine, Wisconsin -- same city as Whitman Publishing, which begs the question whether Hamming Publishing Co. in 1914 had morphed…
