With four full-page illustrations, including two not mentioned in the List of Illustrations (per Van Duzer). Thackeray's daughter, Lady Ritchie, said that this volume "might serve as a diary of the last years of my father's life." Uncommon in the original cloth and in this condition. Heraldic bookplate of Arthur Edmund Stearns on the front pastedown along with the smaller bookplate of Helen and Carleton R. Richmond.
