INTRODUCTION - The rough shooter is a jack-of-all-trades. He takes his chances as and when they come and works hard for the privilege. One day he will be pigeon shooting ; on another 'lighting duck. Picking-up, covert shooting occasionally, rapping, rearing a pen of birds on his few modest acres, are shooting by invitation, training the odd dog and -working the occasional ferret, wildfowling at week-ends -all these occasions are part of his programme. This Shooting Times Library has been designed to issue practical advice within a very limited number of words on all sorts of shooting. You will find, therefore, the technicalities of every sort of shooting in the many other volumes this series. This book does not pretend to be complete itself, but gives, I hope, a general idea of the kind of sport a rough shooter can expect, how to get it, how to keep it, and what to do with his opportunities. You will find within these pages a lot left out and some things eluded which you cannot read elsewhere. Two acknowledgements are due. The first to the proprietors of The Shooting Times, in which journal some of the following opinions have previously appeared, and the second to those rough-shooting friends who have done duty fore or behind the cameras.
