Milan: Rizzoli Editore. 1975. First edition. First edition. Limited edition of 35 personalised copies, signed by Dalí on the title page. With an original gouache painting signed and dated '67 by Dalí lower right. Folio. Publisher's full brown morocco, titles in gilt and white to the upper cover and spine, white silk endpapers and gilt inner dentelles. Printed on handmade paper with Dalí watermark. Illustrated throughout with 10 reproductions after gouache paintings by Salvador Dali. Portfolio bound in full black morocco with titles in gilt to the upper cover housing the original gouache on papier d'Arches (sheet size 378 x 279mm).�With a second portfolio in quarter morocco over white silk boards, titles embossed to the upper cover, containing the full suite of loose prints on heavy card. Together with a certificate of authentication signed by the publisher. Also with a letter signed by Dalí and a certificate from Editions d'Art signed and dated Oct. 1975 linked by a rubber stamp for the original gouache. All in fine condition and housed in the original printed cardboard packaging. The original gouache painting is reproduced as the third plate in the book, illustrating act II, scene III in which Friar Lorenzo gives Giulietta a phial of poison. A phenomenal example of the iconic Spanish surrealist painter Salvador Dali's illustrated edition of Shakespeare's 1597 tragedy Romeo and Juliet. Whilst one of the first 35 copies, produced in a deluxe binding and printed on superior paper for named recipients, it can be one of no more than 10 within this limitation to include an original gouache painting. This copy was reserved for Carlo Sironi, whose name appears in the book, accompanying letters from Dali and publisher's certificates. The total edition, comprising at least four issues, was 999 copies. Further details and images for any of the items listed are available on request. William Shakespeare's iconic love story comes alive with Salvador Dali's surrealist imagination and style in this illustrated edition of Romeo and Juliet. Published by Rizzoli Edizioni Milano in 1975, this fantastic book is limited to just 999 copies total, of which this is one the 819 copies "ad personam", signed in red crayon by Dali on frontispiece, printed in laid paper with watermarked artist's signature. The book compete with 10 color lithographs in full page, and Shakespeare's text, is bound in the original silk sanguine binding. The edition also includes a suite with the 10 lithographs in color signed in red and blue crayon by Dali, loose and collected in the original silk sanguine folder.
