About This Item

New York: New Directions, 1950. 1st Edition. 1st Edition. Signed by Author. Wonderful Presentation Copy From The Library Of Marion Davies. Once the most famously advertised actress in the world, Marion Davies was the love of William Randolph Hearst life, Hollywood's premiere hostess, the inadvertent casualty of Orson Welles' monumental film fiction classic, Citizen Cane. Davies was beloved by all who actually knew her. "Marion Davies makes up for the rest of Hollywood," Tennessee Williams once said of her. First Trade Edition. Williams's first novel. 8vo, 148 pages, original yellow stamped black cloth. A near fine copy of the book in a very good, lightly used dustwrapper showing narrow loss at the extremities of the spine & some bottom edgewear. Inscribed & signed c. 1950, on the ffe. "To Marian [sic] Davies / with my "devoir", Tennessee Williams". A lovely copy -

Marion Davies played by Amanda Michelle Seyfried won Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role Mank (2020) Golden Globes and nominated for an Oscar (2021).
