A.M. Klein (1909-1972) was a major Canadian poet and an important figure in the Jewish-Canadian community. He was a member of the Montreal Group of modernist poets who were inspired by the works of W.H. Auden, T.S. Eliot, and Ezra Pound. In addition, much of his poetry was informed by his experiences as a Jewish Canadian.
The Rocking Chair was his last work of poetry, and was something of a departure in terms of subject matter, focussing primarily on the themes of French Canada. It was one of his most notable works and considered by many to be his best.
This copy appears to be an advance review copy as it comes with a request from The Ryerson Press for reviews of the work. This volume is in Very Good condition, with some staining to the cover and the front and back paste downs and flyleaves. The dust jacket is present and also in Very Good condition with some age-related discolouration.

This is the copy given by the author to Sam Bronfman on 3 Aug. 1948. Author's inscription to Bronfman plus a fulsome handwritten letter to Bronfman on Chait & Klein (Klein's law firm) letterhead laid in. Both inscription and letter signed humbly by Klein as "Abe." Pages cut a little jaggedly (Bronfman's excitement?). Three tiny closed tears to dj, otherwise fresh and bright. Text block also clean and fresh..
