Exciting juvenile adventure novel taking place on an exotic island, authored by Pierre Mael, collective pseudonym for Charles Causse and Charles Vincent, popular French authors who together wrote over 90 adventure stories for boys and girls. Beautifully illustrated with fifty-two engravings by Alfred Paris, over 20 of them full-page. Ornately bound in red cloth with elaborate designs in gold and black. All page edges gilt. Very Good, binding tight, sound, and square, corners sharp, text clean, crisp and bright. Brief inscription in attractive cursive hand on half-title page ("A ma petite mlle ____, 1st Janvier, 1903"). The gilt in-fill of the spine titles has faded. Text in French.
