Presentation copy, signed on title page "For Mr. William Richardson, From the Author." B&W 2-page frontis + 12 plates, engravings by P. Mazell. Half-bound in calf with marbled paper boards. Original spine label with gilt titling laid on to rebacked spine with raised bands. Wear to boards and edges and chipping to leather corners. Library stamp of the Mercantile Library, New York. [8], xix, [5], 477 p.p. [7 - index w/ errata]. Foxing throughout commensurate with age, a few small stains and light soiling. Damp stain to index. Some offsetting from plates. Small chip to page 190. Tanning to text block edges. John Glen King (1732-1787) was a fellow of the Royal and Antiquarian Societies, and Chaplain to the British Factory at St. Petersburg. ESTC # T95407.
