Tasteful bookplate of Sondley Reference Library and gilt manuscript call number on front pastedown. Ink stamp on front free endpaper, verso of title, and in margin of one other page. Paris: Desenne 1807. (Hardcover set) 346, 505, 469, 431pp. Very good. In full calf fine bindings which have been expertly rebacked. Marbled endpapers and edges. The covers are worn and the spines brittle with minor loss at the tops and bottoms, and a 1.5-inch piece missing from the bottom of the spine of Vol.1, also a tasteful bookplate in each volume. The pages are clean and the books have mylar jackets. Text in French Language. (History--Poland, History--Poland, Sets).

On 29 December 1938, Churchill wrote to his wife regarding his initial draft about this part of his history: "I have just finished writing about Joan of Arc. I think she is the winner in the whole of French history. The leading women of these days were more forceful and remarkable than the men." Profusely illustrated, this slim volume contains 17 illustrations by the distinguished artist Lauren Ford. Though 16 of these illustrations had previously been published as black and white drawings, this is their first appearance in color. The illustration on the dust jacket front cover and frontispiece is original to this edition. This little-known edition is scarce and thus missing from many collections.
