Bound in marbled calf with gilt ruled borders on front and rear boards and gilt-tooled spine with leather label. Marbled endpapers. Two engravings, portraits of Tasso and Hoole. xix, 326 pp + [14] pp index. Hoole's English translation of this epic poem written by the 16th century Italian poet, worked on while Hoole was supposed to be studying law. Front pastedown bears bookseller label and two previous owner bookplates, including that of Philip Hone, Federalist Mayor of New York from 1825-1826 and one of the founders of the New York Mercantile Library (rechristened the Center for Fiction in 2005). ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
