Blue cloth boards with pictorial pastedown by M.L. Kirk of a young woman in a white dress and a red sweater, sitting on the grass among trees holding a letter. Name and date of 1923 inked to free endpaper. Boards are faded and contents are darkened with an occasional yellowing mark. Overall in very good condition. "Rilla of Ingleside is one of the only contemporary fictional accounts of the experiences of women and young people at the Canadian home front during the First World War. It was begun within months of the war's end in November 1918 and the death of Montgomery's first cousin and closest friend, Frederica Campbell McFarlane, to whose memory the book is dedicated. Rilla of Ingleside is the eighth of nine books in the Anne of Green Gables series by Lucy Maud Montgomery, but was the sixth "Anne" novel in publication order. It was originally written as the final sequel to Anne of Green Gables."
