Description:
Printed Privately. Confidential.,1909. FIRST EDITION. 8vo. 56pp. One of only 250 copies privately printed by R. & R. Clark of Edinburgh. Inscribed by Shaw on the half title page to Frances Noyes Hart; "The Committee refused to accept this statement; and there was a very pretty row about it which is fully described in the preface to the Shewing up of Blanco Posnet. G. Bernard Shaw. London. 3rd Oct. 1931. To Frances Noyes Hart". A fine copy in original blue stiff card wrappers printed in black to upper cover. Housed in a blue vellum chemise which is lettered in gilt, reproducing the exact lettering, even using the same typeface, as the printed front cover. This is then housed in a quarter green morocco slip case with raised bands and gilt rules and lettering to the spine. The slip case is rubbed and worn but has done its job of keeping the booklet and chemise in fine condition. Frances Noyes Hart was an American short story writer. She became famous after winning the Pulizer prize for her 1927 Crime… Read More

Nattali and Bond. London. No Date.,Circa 1850. THREE VOLUMES. Tall 8vo (10.2 x 6.6 inches). Text and plates taken from the Ninth edition. Complete set of this famous trilogy, with 80 fine hand-coloured, full page, aquatint plates, the colouring still strong and bright, by Thomas Rowlandson. Some minor spots of foxing to a few leaves in each volume but generally clean and bright copies in the scarce original publisher's brown cloth bindings, with gilt lettering and decoration on spines. Decorative blind stamped panels on boards. Original yellow coated endpapers. Previous owners bookplates to front paste downe endpapers. Some rubbing to top and tail of spines and fore-edges, and a couple of the hinges with neatly repaired splits (about 1.5 inches) but generally these are very good examples. Slight uniform fading to spines but overall a very attractive set of this classic work with Rowlandson's humourous plates. Uncommon in the publishers original decorative cloth bindings.:

Description:
Alfred A. Knopf. New York.,1992-98. FIRST EDITIONS. 1st impressions. Three Volumes. 8vo. (8.6 x 6.1 inches). Fine, bright copies in the publishers fine original dustwrappers, designed by Chip Kidd. A fine set of true first editons of this hugely popular trilogy. There is some confusion about a probable trial issue dustwrapper for the first title, with no advance praise notices on the lower panel and lacking the blue capital letter 'A' at the start of the blurb inside the front flap. This wrapper was not officially issued with the published book. The first edition wrapper, as issued on day of publication, has the price of $21.00 on the inner front flap and the number code '5/92' at the bottom of the inner rear flap. The wrapper on All the Pretty horses in this set has both of these points.

Description:
Henry and Co. London. 1893. FIRST EDITION. Octavo. Original blue buckram, lettered in gilt. Housed in a custom green cloth slipcase and chemise. Small bookplate to front pastedown, related bibiliographic material pasted to endpapers. Shaw's very scarce first play, published in an edition, according to Laurence, of "not more than 500" copies. It was not an overwhelming bestseller. Shaw wrote to John Lane (quoted in Laurence) that the publisher "never advertised it even once; and the sale, which was only effected by great perseverance & determination on the part of the purchasers, was 150 copies." When the publisher retired in December 1897, they ceded to Shaw 194 sets of unbound sheets, which Shaw claimed to have commissioned Sotheran & Co. to bind for him. "So few of these [in purple cloth] in the Sotheran binding have turned up, however, that it is unlikely Shaw had all of the copies bound; a considerable number must eventually have been pulped â¦" Copies in green cloth have been noted as well,… Read More

Description:
London: Printed for H. D. Symonds,, 1792. The revolutionary debate A pamphlet volume of radical and anti-radical works published in London around the French Revolution, including early editions of both parts of Paine's Rights of Man, the response of future US president John Quincy Adams to Paine, and an apparently unrecorded account of the execution of Louis XVI. The Rights of Man, Paine's great defence of the inalienable rights of the people, and their right to revolution when governments do not uphold these rights, went through many printings in quick succession and met a wide readership, despite the Pitt government's attempts at censorship. Written in response to Edmund Burke's Reflections on the Revolution in France, Paine defends the French Revolution and proposes reforms to Britain's own system. John Quincy Adams's response to Paine was first published in an American newspaper in 1791. "Adams' articles did not directly condemn the French Revolution, but they argued against revolutionary change… Read More

London: [White: Edinburgh] Printed for J. S. Jordan, [Printed for Silvester Doig],, 1791 & 1792. Scarce early Paine, in contemporary tract volume Sixth London edition of Paine's Rights of Man (the year of first publication), bound with the first and only edition of White's Rational Freedom, a scarce and impassioned condemnation of Paine, in a volume of five political works. Paine's great defence of the inalienable rights of the people, and their right to revolution when governments do not uphold these rights, went through many printings in quick succession and met a wide readership, despite the Pitt government's attempts at censorship. Written in response to Edmund Burke's Reflections on the Revolution in France, Paine defends the French Revolution and proposes reforms to Britain's own system. The publication, at a time when there were real fears that popular revolution would occur in England, caused a great stir. Description:
1970 Guardian first American editions. Credited to author Baik Bong, the books are thought to be collectively written by the Chinese and North Korean governments.
First published in the Korean language in 1968 and 1969. The English language translations were first published in 1969 and 1970, in Japan, under the Miraisha imprint.
The three books offered in this listing are first American editions, with US copyrights and Library of Congress catalog numbers. Kim's three volume biography was published and distributed worldwide under various imprints and languages, including French, Italian, Spanish, and Serbian. Presumably, this worldwide distribution was undertaken in support of "exporting revolution", a priority of the Chinese government in the 1960's and 1970's.
Condition of the three books and dust jackets is Very Good Plus. The books have sound bindings, complete and unmarked inside pages. The dust jackets show only light shelf wear, are not price clipped, and are protected in new mylar covers.
