Washington, D.C.: The Carnegie Institution of Washington, 1907. Cloth. Very Good. A tight, well-preserved copy of the 1907 1st edition. Subtly ex-libris, having been de-accessioned from the holdings at Johns Hopkins University Library in Baltimore. An armorial bookplate and stamp on the front pastedown indicate as much and the only other trace of onetime library owenrship is a very small "JHU" blindstamp at the title page. The navy-blue cloth is clean and bright, the gilt-titling along the spine crisp and unflecked. Internally, the book is very solid as well and, other than its several library markings, is clean as could be. Quarto, 176 pgs. of text plus 35 plates (a number of them fold-outs) at the rear.

The pelycosaurs are a group of synapsids that had direct ancestral links to the Mammalia, having differentiated teeth and a developing hard palate. From the research collection of paleontologist Lauren E. Brown with his signature on the front endpaper.
