7th Draft of the Screenplay for the 1985 Disney film "Return to Oz." Walter Murch's Return to Oz (1985) was the first attempt at a big budget Hollywood film based on Baum's books since the beloved 1939 MGM musical. Drawing mainly on the second and third books in Baum's Oz series, The Marvelous Land of Oz (1904), and Ozma of Oz (1907), it also was heavily influenced by the MGM film having characters appear as normal people in Kansas then as fantastical characters in Oz and making use of MGM's copyrighted Ruby Slippers (for which Disney had to pay a special fee to MGM, as in the book Dorothy had Silver Shoes, not Ruby Slippers). Front wrapper bears the title "OZ," but the final title, "Return to Oz", is on the title page. This 7th Draft screenplay is fairly close to the completed film; with only some of the dialogue and bits of business omitted in the final version.
